Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Why???)

Disney buys Lucasfilm- The Empire has now crushed the Republic. Decades of Star Wars Legacy has now been erased, declared non-canon by conquerors who first bought Lucasfilm, dissolved it, and then destroyed anything that would stand in the way of  new movies. Why improve old franchise when you could make a whole new one? To continue the Star Wars metaphor, this is as if The Empire not only took over the Republic, it then used the Death Star to destroy all the planets save a few of the richest ones and then began to slowly build new planets from scratch. It just doesn’t make sense!...

Second-Class First Aid

Recently we worked on First Aid. Nathaniel so kindly volunteered to die several times for demonstration purposes. We talked about a lot of stuff, but instead of listing them I’ll simply post the pictures I took.

Camping Scouts

I’m really sorry how late this is. I realize this happened a long time ago, but I’m doing it now and that’s what matters. Thank you for reminding me to do this, Ironcraft. Anyway, we went camping on March Twenty-something. I can’t really remember that much about what we did anymore, but we arrived there, set up tents, then had dinner. And desert (s’mores). After that, we did games as it was getting dark, mostly capture the “flag”. After that, I went to bed and I’m not sure what the rest of you did. The next morning, I remembered my duty as...

An Incidental Time Capsule

Nina found a peeling board on the side of the old desk. Intrigued,  she opened it up to find a treasure trove of historical Lyon Family artifacts. Some findings include: A Halmark pencil Several G-I Joe accesories   A postcard belong to Uncle Daniel (About age 6)   A tiny action figure (The dime is for size comparison)   And another pencil with an interesting brand.   There was also a yellowed paper, but it tore in half as soon as we touched it. If you recognized any of these items, please comment!...

Quiet Please, War in Progress

I just entered a writing contest at a local library, and I’m pretty sure I’ll win, but I’m matched against high school kids so… Anyway, people have asked me to show them my essay. So here it is, due to popular request.   The Galactic Librarians are a thriving, studious race, one half of them seeking the unknown as literature hunters, the other half cataloging and preserving it in their library. They turn into books when they die, which are then placed on the shelves for future generations to read. They are the treasurers of knowledge, preservers of culture, and...

Camping

We went camping two days ago. We spent most of that morning hurrying around, trying to pack up. We were done and in the car by 4:29 PM.  It took about half an hour to get there. We got the tent set up, and then started the campfire. It went really well. We used a fire-starter product that had a chemical specially designed to catch fire. That kept it going for hours. Minimum effort, maximum functionality. Now that’s efficiency! After that, we cooked some hot dogs. Campfire hot dogs are pretty good! Then we roasted marshmallows and had s’mores. What can I say that would make the...

11-year-olds camp

11-year-olds camp

I turned 11 almost two months ago, and what 11-year-old boy scouts in our ward do is an early evening to late afternoon campout. So me and dad went camping in a huge area complete with forest, plain, grass, pond, and STICKERS. Man, I hate stickers. For those of you unfamiliar with the term, “Stickers” (Stickerious Annoyingus) are painfull, hard plant material that hunt in packs. They cling to shoes, pants, and skin in an endless quest to raise their reputation from annoying to outright dangerous. I just hope that stickers are merely for protection, and not seeds. Anyway, back to...

The Lyon family May 3-4 2013 adventure!!!

The Lyon family May 3-4 2013 adventure!!!

First off, has anyone heard of our labour day Meskogee misadventure? It’s called a misadventure because every shop, museum, and fun thing we had planned to see was closed for labour day. Dad had planned for days on the fun events, but we didn’t see any of them, except for some statue of a girl and some boxes of cookies. However, going to THE CASTLE, (another disappointment), we found that it opened every weekend during May. And so, our heroes the Lyons set out on the third of May to the city of Meskogee. Their first stop was in Dora’s Malt Shop. Have you ever tried a malt?...

Valentine’s day

Valentine’s day

It looks like no one has published anything yet, so it looks like I’m going to be the first one to blog something about it. But don’t worry mom and dad, I’ll leave the details for you. }:^) Breakfast: Pancakes Lunch: I forgot Snack: candy Dinner: cheese fondue Dessert: chocolate fondue. By the time we got to dessert my stomach was screaming for a time out. I had to eat slices of apples just to prevent myself from slipping into a sugar coma. I got lots of valentines, but those count as details, so I’ll leave that to M&D. Did you know that on Valentine’s day...

Minecraft

I recently got this game called Minecraft. It’s basically an adventure world all put together through one-square-meter sized blocks. The point of the game is to farm crops, chop down trees, stop monsters that spawn at night, build shelters, protect villages ,craft tools, go mining , travel to other dimensions, and basically anything to survive and thrive. The monsters in Minecraft are zombies, giant spiders, creepers, slimes, Endermen, Fire cubes, zombie pigmen , ghasts, blazes, and, the boss of the game, the Ender Dragon. Stop the Ender Dragon and go through half a n hour of credits....

Happy Holidays!

Happy Holidays!

Merry Christmas! Christmas morning, 3:00, Nina woke me up, saying “Grant, it’s Christmas!”. That made me mad because I had not said I wanted to be woken up early. ESPECIALLY that early. But I was awake, and I couldn’t go back to bed. So, half-asleep, I walked into the living room, where light from the tree caught the wrapping on the presents in a shimmering display of commercial Christmas magic. I opened my stocking, fully awake now, and beheld chocolates, candies, story dice, an alarm clock, and more toys. Getting out my kindle, I waited. And waited. And waited....
